Our brand new enhanced care response vehicle has arrived, courtesy of Smart Metering Services Ltd.

Friday 28th May 2021 was handover day for the much anticipated Volvo enhanced care response vehicle. This incredible addition to our charity was provided by SMS ltd, and we are forever grateful for their support

MEDSERVE Wales is a South Wales based medical charity that provides volunteer clinicians – doctors, nurses and paramedics – to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service at serious incidents 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The charity has been running for over 25 years, and has grown from only 4 doctors in Mid Glamorgan to over 30 volunteers, who give their time free to help others when they need it most.

When the Coronavirus struck, not only was the demand on the NHS huge, but small charities like MEDSERVE Wales lost one of their main streams of income – donations from social events and fundraising such as bike rides and sponsored walks. This severely affected the charity’s income, just when they also needed to replace their ageing response car.

After a chance telephone call with BASICS HQ – The British Association for Immediate Care (www.basics.org.uk) the charity was informed that it had been selected to receive a new response car – for the cost of £1 PER YEAR.

Smarter Metering Services limited is an independent metering services company, delivering specialist solutions in gas metering to a broad spectrum of companies. They have also proven to be a national friend to BASICs organisations, and we are incredibly thankful to be on the receiving end of their generosity with their latest “Project X-ray Charlie”.

The provision of an emergency vehicle for

our team response is such a valuable resource,

yet an essential aspect for our charity work.

Such an enormous responsibility for anyone

wishing to support us, our gratitude to our

new friends at SMS limited cannot be understated.

Tom Ward, the Chief Executive Officer of Smarter Metering Services Limited, had been involved in an accident a few years before, and had been treated by a doctor from BASICS. Therefore, Smarter Metering Services Limited and its sister company Gas Emergency UK Limited have spent the last 12 months supporting various charities within the British Association for Immediate Care (BASICs). This support began during the initial lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

CEO Tom Ward began offering his time to volunteer in support of the NHS to assist people in the local community along with offering support for all of his furloughed teams to do the same, following that experience Smarter Metering Services then reached out to various charities also supporting the NHS and critical care to see whether we could offer more support as a local business. It became clear that there had been a dramatic reduction in financial support for these charities throughout 2020 and 2021 due to the struggling economic climate and challenges of COVID-19.

Smarter Metering Services Limited have now made a number of donations of critical care and emergency response vehicles, the most recent of which to MEDSERVE Wales which was delivered on 28th May 2021 at a handover event at Celtic Manor Resort. Chairman of MEDSERVE, Ian Bowler, commented "this incredible act of generosity from Tom and SMS energy is going to make an amazing difference to us a a charity, and therefore to the health of the people of South Wales."

The car will be having its first shift over the weekend of 4-6th June, so look out for us and give us a wave!
