Dr Gareth Roberts
Consultant in Anaesthetics & PHEM
Tier 1 Solo Responder
Dr Gareth Roberts has been a Consultant in Anaesthetics and Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) since 2016. He was initially introduced to PHEM by the West Midlands CARE Team in his 4th year of medical school, eventually joining the team in 2009. Since that time, he went on to be the first trainee within the Welsh Deanery to go through the newly instituted PHEM Training programme in 2013, with subsequent achievements with the Fellowship of Immediate Medical Care (FIMC) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
At present, Dr Roberts is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, whilst working with the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS). He also volunteers his spare time with MEDSERVE Wales responding in Cardiff and across South Wales, and occasionally still does clinical shifts with the West Midlands CARE team where it all began for Gareth. He is now also an examiner with the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, endorsing a key component of his practice and teaching, “Aspire for excellence”. His clinical mantra aims to do what is honourable with the recognition that the Pre-Hospital teams have the knowledge, skills and resources to relieve suffering and help save lives. Why wouldn’t you use them?
